There is no one normal daily amount. Heat, wind, humidity, surface area, water features and temperature differences all affect evaporation.
Why wind matters
Wind removes humid air over the water and replaces it with drier air. Open lots and raised features often lose more water.
Water features increase exposure
Spillovers, waterfalls and deck jets expose more water to moving air. Long run times can increase loss.
Use a bucket test
A properly performed bucket test compares pool loss with container loss under the same weather. Pause autofill so it does not hide results.
Signs of a leak
Sudden increases, air in the system, soggy soil, cracks, unexplained autofill use or loss stopping at one level may indicate leakage.
Protect equipment
Keep water in the normal range. Low water may cause the skimmer to draw air and damage the pump if ignored.
